Abstract

The evolution of modern office architecture frequently gravitates toward uniform typologies and a paucity of local identity, driven by the pervasive influence of globalization. This phenomenon has resulted in the erosion of regional character within the built environment. Consequently, preservation efforts directed at cultural heritage can be interpreted as a strategic instrument for reinforcing identity. Diverse indigenous wisdom functions not only as a framework for consolidating national identity and collective memory but also as a medium for sustaining the environment in which that culture flourishes. Cultural heritage serves as a communal signifier, distinguishing one society from another; a prominent manifestation of such identity is the historical architectural works dominant in the Simalungun region. This research aims to examine how the implementation of regional culture in office buildings can bolster local identity while simultaneously enhancing sustainability performance. The research methodology employs a qualitative-descriptive approach through a comprehensive literature review and building precedent analysis. The findings indicate that the application of regional elements can be manifested through the adaptation of form, indigenous materials, spatial configurations, ornamental motifs, and localized climatic responses. The integration of local cultural values into office design does not merely establish a robust architectural identity but also improves thermal comfort, energy efficiency, and the social attachment of users to the built structure
