Recollection - Visual Design of Local Deities in Wenzhou

Abstract

This study takes the belief culture of local deities in Wenzhou as the research object, focusing on the visualization and organization of cultural information of more than fifty local deities in the Wenzhou area. Through systematic literature verification and field investigation combined with graphic design theory and visual communication methods, it explores how the modern visualization design of local deity images should be designed. A comprehensive folk data system is established, including deity functions, temple distribution, and sacrificial customs. A classification system based on four major categories—Natural Gods, Human Gods, Industry Gods, and War Gods—is developed. The research results include the creation of a structured, color-coded visual system and modular layout, effectively transforming complex intangible cultural data into a user-friendly information graphic design. These outcomes provide a new path for cultural preservation and public education.
