Abstract

This article looks at how Karl Marx's historical materialism approach, based on the proposition that the production and distribution of goods and services is the basis for helping humans to develop their existence. According to him, that the process of human life from two factors that have a historical relationship, namely the economic factor as the basis and the problem of human consciousness which is manifested in science and philosophy, ideology and religion as the superstructure. This research method uses literature study or source search through primary and secondary sources. The results of the research show that the objects that make up reality are a logical consequence of the effects and activities of the subject. This activity is an activity that is less natural in the eyes of reality. Material comes first before consciousness.
