Abstract

Dolat Rakyat District in Karo Regency is rich in horticultural produce, including oranges, mangoes, and passion fruit. However, constraints in post-harvest infrastructure lead to high rates of crop spoilage and low commercial value, since products are distributed strictly as raw. This research aims to formulate a design concept for an integrated Fruit Processing Center in Dolat Rakyat utilizing an Industrial Architecture paradigm that is highly functional yet responsive to environmental context. The design methodology follows a systematic descriptive-analytical model including site analysis, linear zoning for food safety criteria, and synthesis of indoor-outdoor technical programs. The synthesis reveals that deploying a linear configuration corresponding to the physical workflow (receiving, sorting, washing, processing, packaging, and cold storage) combined with natural cross-ventilation techniques and local materials effectively optimizes manufacturing circulation while simultaneously respecting the distinct rural visual language of Karo highlands.
